The Subject and the Artist
Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 7:00pm

Todd Camp, Into the Sky
Main Gallery

Since graduating from the Columbus College of Art and Design in 1989, Todd Camp has spent nearly 30 years as an artist. He has also given back to the Central Ohio art community by teaching with programs including Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, the YMCA of Central Ohio, the King Arts Complex, and most recently serving as Assistant Arts Administrator for the Columbus Cultural Arts Center. His work exhibited in Into the Sky is made mainly from materials one can buy from a hardware store. “I rely on the experimental combinations of material and its application to reveal a truth about my vision and shake me awake with color and depth,” says Camp. While color and texture have always been important in his works, his current work is guided by structure, specifically the relationship between sky and ground.

Richard Duarte Brown, Layers of Life
Corridor Galleries

Works will include paintings by TRANSIT ARTS youth and young adult artists.

Originally from Atlantic City, New Jersey, Richard Duarte Brown has made quite an impact on the Columbus art scene. He received his BFA from Ohio Dominican University in 2012, but he has spent the past thirty years as a teaching artist through organizations including the Greater Columbus Arts Council, Ohio Alliance for Arts and Education, Short Stop, Transit Arts and Central Community House. Brown is currently the lead art teacher at the GCAC’s out-of-school arts program Art in the House. He works primarily in mixed media and uses various textures and intense, vibrant colors to paint the “relational desires” and “spontaneous living” in the heart of the community. Through his work, Brown seeks to communicate the support system that emerges from the relationship between human experience and colorful artistic expression.
